Hundreds of people gathered in Madison Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil honoring 38-year-old Corey Ruiz, who was fatally shot by police the previous day.
Flowers, candles, and signs were placed at the corner of South Baldwin and Williamson Streets, where the shooting occurred.
Four Madison police officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues, though their identities have not been released.
Earlier Thursday, protesters interrupted a news conference held by Madison Police Chief John Patterson, who was providing an update on the shooting.
Authorities say Ruiz displayed a knife while struggling with officers attempting to arrest him before he was shot.
