A former gym teacher and track coach in the Mishicot School District will spend at least 40 years behind bars after being sentenced in his circuit court case.
38-year-old Ryan Schroeder will spend 20 years in prison followed by 10 years on extended supervision for charges including repeated sexual assault of the same child.
Schroeder was previously sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for charges of possession of child pornography.
Other charges in his circuit court case were dismissed but read into the record.
Manitowoc County Assistant District Attorney Angelina Scarpelli read two statements from one of the victims’ parents before telling Judge Mark Rohrer that Schroeder betrayed the public’s trust as a teacher and track coach.
The 38-year-old told the court that he takes responsibility for his actions and apologized to the victims and their families for what he did. 
Judge Rohrer stated that Schroeder groomed the children for his selfish sexual behavior, and it took away from the victims having a normal life in high school.
As part of Schroeder’s probation, he’s not to have any internet-enabled devices without permission and will not be able to teach or coach again.
He must also be a part of the sex offender registry.
Schroeder was arrested in April 2025 after the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office got multiple reports of inappropriate behavior with two students.
That included having sexual contact with one student over 50 times, including 10 times at Mishicot High School.
The 38-year-old also exchanged sexual photos with the second victim.
