A major road in Manitowoc will undergo construction before a full replacement at the end of the decade.
The Common Council unanimously approved a professional services agreement with MSA for real estate work on Calumet Avenue for reconstruction.
In a memo from City Engineer Greg Minkel, part of the design requires the city to “acquire the necessary Right-of-Way for the project.”
That would include grading, sloping, and restoration work to match private property areas. 50 parcels need to be acquired for a portion of the project.
The right-of-way work is expected to cost a little more than $179,000 through MSA.
Minikel tells Seehafernews.com that the work needs to be done before Calumet Avenue is fully replaced in 2029.
This step is also required before funding from WisDOT and the federal government can be used.
Construction on Highway 151, or Calumet Avenue and Washington Street, would include replacing existing concrete pavement, rehabilitation of the Interstate 43 ramps, curb and gutters, sidewalks, intersection improvements, and another possible roundabout.
