A Newton man charged in a dangerous Two Rivers Police pursuit has been bound over for trial.
During his preliminary hearing last week, 29-year-old Brennen Toltzmann entered not guilty pleas to nine charges he faces in the incident that caused damage to three Two Rivers Police squad cars.
The hearing continued on even though Brennen was not physically in court. Court records show that Two Rivers Police Department witness Karen Elesnpeter was sworn in to testify on the case.
After cross-examination by Toltzmann’s attorneys, Judge Anthony Lambrecht found there was enough evidence to make the 29-year-old eligible for trial.
A scheduling conference was scheduled for September 17th.
Tolzmann faces charges including 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, attempted taking of a vehicle without consent, fleeing and eluding an officer, criminal damage to property, and five other charges, including OWI, a 3rd offense.
Two Rivers Police officers pulled the 29-year-old over on Memorial Drive and immediately saw signs of impairment.
The suspect allegedly took off, causing the pursuit.
He also hit a squad car, drove in the shoulder, evaded officers, and eventually crashed on Waldo Blvd in Manitowoc.
Toltzmann would try to get into a Two Rivers Police car before he was tased and arrested.
