Manitowoc’s 17u American Legion team fell one game short of the state tournament.
Post 88 opened up Regional play at Zephyr Field in Neenah last Thursday with a 7-5 loss to the Appleton Doubledays, but bounced back in the double elimination tournament with a 7-4 win over New London.
Then, on Saturday, the local squad pounced all over Wrightstown, earning a 17-4 win, and securing a chance to avenge their earlier loss to Appleton.
But it wasn’t meant to be, as Manitowoc fell 9-5.
The matchup was close, aside from a 6-run 3rd inning by Appleton, which ended up being the deciding factor.
Manitowoc Lincoln’s Ethan Emmett led the way at the plate with two RBI, while fellow Shipbuilder Bryce Ducat and Manitowoc Lutheran’s Andrew Holper each tallied one.
Andrew Kleinhans of Kiel suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs in his 3 innings on the mound, while Lancer Isaiah Hochmuth allowed 7 runs on 5 hits.
Appleton was dominant all tournament long, taking down Wrightstown 20-2 and St. Mary Catholic 16-0.
The Post 88 17u team’s season came to an end with a record of 19-10, while the 19u team begins regional play tomorrow at Sunset Park in Kimberly.
