The Rahr West Art Museum is hosting a special exhibit on a self-taught Scottish painter.
Curator John Olbrantz will host a free special exhibition lecture at the Manitowoc Art Museum today at 2:00 p.m. for Antiquity Unveiled: David Roberts Artistic Expedition 1838-1839.
Roberts rose from the depths of poverty and obscurity in Edinburgh, Scotland, to become one of the most celebrated artists and travelers of his generation.
He was a member of the Royal Academy and an artist whose work can be found in some of the most distinguished public and private collections in Europe and America.
Some of his best-known artworks include The Holy Land, Syria, Arabia, and Egypt, among others.
Olbrantz is a director at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.
Following the lecture, there will be a question-and-answer session, and light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Rahr-West.
