A Janesville woman is taking Waukesha County to court for allegedly violating her First Amendment rights.
Lynn Tanner filed a civil rights lawsuit last week over claims she was forced to remove her hijab for a booking photo and then wear it on her wrist where male officers could see it.
She said her hijab was removed for the photo in front of female officers, but her freedom of religion was violated when the booking photo was made public for all to see.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office argued it’s in jail policy to remove items covering the head, face, and neck areas.
