Gumbys Club Fore a Cure has an event this weekend to raise money for cancer patients.
Denise Roseff started Gumbys Club Fore a Cure to raise money for her husband after he got diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2011.
In the past 25 years, this has evolved into raising money for those who are fighting cancer.
“Now we help local families that have been affected by cancer by sending them a check to help out with expenses that maybe health insurance doesn’t cover,” she tells us.
The club is completely volunteer-based, and all funds go back to the families.
They do several events every year to raise money, and one of their biggest events is Gumby’s Golf weekend, which will be held on July 11th and 12th.
On the 11th, they will have 4-person teams golfing 9 holes at 4:00 pm.
On the golf course, there will be food, beverages, and raffles. After the golfing, there will be a 5k glow run starting in Meadow Lanes and running through Lincoln Park Zoo.
Then on the 12th, there will be golf at 8:00 am, followed by awards and a ceremony at 12:00 pm.
This ceremony is a huge part of the event and brings recognition to everyone who helps to raise money for those in need.
“It’s just a way to let everybody who’s participating and spending their money at our event know why they’re doing it and how it affects the people that they are helping along the way,” she explained.
The ceremony is followed by many more exciting events, including a bowling tournament, raffles, a silent auction, a wine pull, and live music.
There are still slots left for golfers to fill, so to sign up to golf, volunteer for the event, or to get more information, visit GumbysClubForeACure.org.
