Two Sheboygan fishermen are being praised for their heroic actions during a water rescue.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit had been called to the South Pier in Sheboygan on June 19th after learning an individual had jumped into Lake Michigan and was struggling to stay afloat.
While the Marine Patrol was on its way, the charter fishing vessel Last Chance, operated by Wolf Pack Adventures, was returning to port, saw what was happening, and jumped into action.
Captain Jordan Bradley and First Mate Joshua Genske guided the vessel up to the swimmer and helped them aboard, actions the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office said, “undoubtedly saved a life that day.”
Jordan and Joshua were presented with a Marine Patrol Challenge Coin on July 1st in recognition of their lifesaving efforts and outstanding service to the boating community.
The Sheriff’s Office also noted, “We would also like to express our appreciation to all of the commercial fishing captains, charter captains, and professional mariners who operate on Lake Michigan. While Marine Patrol is not always actively patrolling the water, we frequently rely on these experienced captains and crews to be our eyes and ears on the lake and to assist vessels and individuals in distress. Their knowledge of the water, commitment to safety, and willingness to help others make them an essential part of keeping Lake Michigan safe for everyone.”
