While many are getting ready to shoot off some fireworks tomorrow, for pet owners, Independence Day brings a unique set of concerns.
Many pets do not handle the explosions and whittles well and can have a wide range of out-of-the-ordinary reactions.
Some pets will cower and hide, while others may try to run away, even if they normally are well-behaved and know their boundaries.
BestFriends.org has some tips for helping keep your pets calm during the 4th of July celebrations.
The most common tactic is to snuggle up with your pet, sometimes under a blanket, and show them you are there to protect them.
Others would prefer to hide in a corner or a dark room.
BestFriends.org says, “We need to respect that choice. Check on your pet periodically, though, to make sure they’re OK.”
For those in the Manitowoc area, there is another option. The newly opened Patriot Pup kennel and groomers are more than happy to help.
Co-owner Amber Hutchinson tells SeehaferNews.com she conducted a test recently to see how well they were outfitted for assisting dogs during a fireworks show.
“Our contractors put in some sound barriers and I barely heard it,” she explained. “It’s calm and I will be here throughout the night that might need it.”
Dog owners can reserve a kennel space by visiting the Patriot Pup Facebook page, or PatriotPupLLC.com.
