A man from Two Rivers has avoided prison time in a child abuse case.
25-year-old David Flores recently appeared in Manitowoc County court for a plea and sentencing hearing as he faced one felony count of Child Abuse, Intentionally Causing Harm.
However, at that hearing, those charges were dropped in place of lesser, misdemeanor counts of Battery and Disorderly Conduct, to which Flores was found guilty by way of a no contest plea.
At that same hearing, Judge Anthony Lambrecht withheld the 25-year-old’s sentencing and instead ordered him to two years of probation.
Flores was originally accused of a violent assault on a child, which took place in Manitowoc County last November.
It was alleged that Flores and a child got into a verbal argument, which quickly turned physical.
A police report explains that it turned physical when Flores struck the child with a belt before kicking them, punching them, and throwing them into a door frame.
Following the incident, the victim’s other guardian, as well as Manitowoc County Child Protective Services, provided detectives with images showing the injuries sustained by the child at the hands of the 24-year-old.
