Ever wonder what it would be like to take the driver’s seat in a cement mixer? Or pull out the hose on a fire truck? Or blow the horn on a really big rig? (OK, maybe not that loudly!)
Even if you haven’t, your kids probably have. So back by popular demand, Manitowoc Public Library will again host its biggest annual event, Touch the Trucks. This year, the wheely big event will take place Wednesday, July 15, from 10 AM to noon—and since it’s an entirely outside event, cross your fingers for good weather! (In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled—there’s just no way to fit all those trucks IN the library!)
We’ve recruited about twenty vehicles—from fire trucks and police cars to tractors and cement mixers (and maybe a few surprise entries!)—to the Briess Parking Lot across from the Library. Kids can climb aboard, pretend to drive, pose for pics and pretend to be big for a bit! Local organizations and companies take pride in their vehicles, and we’re thrilled to highlight them!

This year is the 250th anniversary of the United States, so we’re inviting participants to deck out their vehicles in red, white and blue to celebrate this especially patriotic year!
This event is so popular, parking can be a bit tricky, so plan on a short walk and a bit of traffic congestion at 8th and Quay that morning. (Or stop in the library to keep cool for a bit!). Whatever you do, however, keep your grumpies at home—it’ll all be worth it to see the kids’ faces!
