A Ripon man will spend over half a century in prison for attacking a victim with a hatchet during a sexual assault last June.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says 35-year-old Hayden Daffinson was sentenced to 60 years behind bars and 30 years on extended supervision for the attack.
Daffinson was found guilty due to a no-contest plea on charges of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide, 1st-degree sexual assault, and mayhem, all with domestic abuse enhancers.
A 38-year-old woman called Fond du Lac Police after the June attack, saying she was actively bleeding and the 35-year-old suspect had fled the scene.
She was found with lacerations to her head, back, and limbs.
The victim was eventually flown to a hospital in Neenah for extensive surgery. DA Toney says the victim was hit 25 times with the hatchet during a sexual assault.
He continued to call the incident a “horrific example of the violence associated with domestic abuse, and we will continue to stand with our law enforcement to protect women from domestic abuse and hold those accountable committing these horrific acts of violence. The survivor’s life will never be the same, but she is alive because of her bravery and strength, which I hope is an inspiration to others.”
