Richard “Dick” Edward Lodel, 85, formerly of Mayerl Road, Cato, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026 at Felician Village.
Dick was born on July 24, 1940 in Manitowoc to George C. and Eleanor M. (Haslow) Lodel. He served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1963. On October 31, 1960, he married Joyce “Cookie” A. Stenzel. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2022. Dick was a crane operator for Manitowoc Cranes, until his retirement in 2005.
Dick was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valders, where he served as a deacon, an usher, and a sunday school teacher. Dick was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting, going to the cottage, rummaging, tinkering, socializing and playing bingo and he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his children: Ric Lodel, Tony (Marcia) Lodel, Sheri Lodel, and Mike (Sarah) Lodel; grandchildren: Wesley (Brittany), Hayden (fiancé Jenna), Chloe, Matthew, Logan, and Lucas; great-grandchildren: Walker and Cecelia; brother and sisters: Roger (Maryann) Lodel, Vivian Uhlers, and Ann Jensen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Judy Lodel, Joan Lodel, Chuck Stenzel, Bill (Laurie) Stenzel, and Jim (Sue) Stenzel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents: George and Eleanor Lodel; wife: Cookie Lodel; daughter: Belle Lodel; brothers and sister: Joseph Lodel, James Lodel, Mary Lodel, George Lodel, Darlene (John) Kakuk, Tom Lodel, Henry (Linda) Lodel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James Uhlers, Eugene Jensen, David Stenzel, Edward (Elaine) Stenzel, Gerladine “Susie” (Lloyd) Free, Wally (Lorraine) Stenzel, Darlene Stenzel, and Elmer (Carol) Stenzel; and other relatives.
A funeral service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 255 W. Roosevelt St., with Rev. Dan Lyman officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Dick will be laid to rest at Valders West Cemetery.
