With the 4th of July nearly upon us, the Manitowoc Police Department is reminding citizens to stay safe when in contact with fireworks.
While it is fun to shoot off fireworks in your own backyard, Police Chief John Musial says there are certain laws in place that you should know about.
“Things that would be legal to light (include) sparklers, stationary cones or fountains, most things that stay on the ground,” he explained. “Examples of things that are illegal in the city without a permit are roman candles, bottle rockets, motors, anything that explodes or leaves the ground is illegal within the city.”
If there are any questions about this law, those curious can go to the Manitowoc city website and check ordinance 6.070 for those specific regulations on firework safety.
They say that they want people to have fun but be safe.
Instead of shooting off fireworks yourself, a firework show is put on by Manitowoc along the coast of Lake Michigan.
For the USA’s 250th birthday, Mayor Justin Nickles says this fireworks show will be the best one yet.
