Organizers are once again seeking volunteers to gauge the unhoused population along the Lakeshore.
The Lakeshore Housing Coalition will hold its summer Point-in-Time (PIT) Count on July 22nd into July 23rd in an effort to better understand homelessness throughout our region.
The PIT Count will be conducted in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee, and Door Counties, and will require a large number of volunteers to ensure things go smoothly and that those in our community experiencing homelessness are properly assessed.
Volunteers can offer their time from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. or from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
They will also receive training before the count, learn how to engage respectfully, help individuals complete a brief survey, and more.
The data collected during the PIT Count provides “a snapshot of each county and is used by the federal government to help determine funding to the programs and agencies that serve this population.”
On the importance of this event, the Housing Coalition noted, “This work is done with care, dignity, and compassion. Every interaction helps ensure people are seen, heard, and connected to support.”
Individuals looking to volunteer can sign up to do so by following the link provided on the Facebook event page.
