
The duck population in Wisconsin continues to grow.
The Wisconsin DNR says the state’s breeding duck population is about 571,400 birds, a 1% increase from 2025 and 28% above the long-term average.
The 2026 mallard breeding population is close to 162,900 birds, 5% higher than in 2025 but still below the long-term average.
The Wisconsin wood duck population increased by 6% in 2025 but still remains 12% lower than the long-term average.
The DNR also looked at the population of Canada Geese and found that it declined by 2% in 2025, but still remains 13% higher than the long-term average.
Those interested in waterfowl, the annual Waterfowl Hunters Expo takes place on August 21st and 22nd at the Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh.
The expo will feature hands-on exhibits for attendees to try and buy the latest in outdoor products and hear from industry experts.
