Sheboygan’s Fire Department is preparing for its next community blood drive.
The blood drive is still five weeks out and set for July 23rd; however, time slots to make a donation are filling up quickly, and members of the community are encouraged to participate.
The drive is being conducted in partnership with the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin and will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sheboygan’s Fire Station 3, located at 1326 North 25th Street.
While the need for blood donations is always high, in Sheboygan, they have become even more pertinent after the introduction of SFD’s prehospital blood administration program, which allows paramedics to begin blood transfusions at the scene of an emergency and en route to the hospital.
When introduced, the fire department stated that this program would have life-saving results, noting, “Severe bleeding remains one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma patients, and early access to blood has been shown to significantly improve survival.”
Those looking to sign up to donate blood can do so by following the registration link provided on the Sheboygan Fire Department Facebook page.
