Cool cars will be rolling into the Cool City this weekend.
The 26th annual Cool City Classic Car Show and Cruise gets underway tomorrow night (June 26th) at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Manitowoc campus, where those who want to show off their car can pay $5 to be in the cruise up Memorial Drive into Two Rivers.
Two Rivers Main Streets Director Jason Ring tells Seehafernews.com that because of construction on Viebahn Street, cars will not be able to meet in the same parking lot like in years past.
“We’re going to use the back entrance to the UW Center,” he explained. “You just continue south past Viebahn on 10th Street, and then it will be a left turn right past Ecotech.”
Ring says the cruise began as a way to draw people to downtown Two Rivers, allowing classic car owners to visit local shops and restaurants between 15th and 21st Streets.
With all those cars parked downtown, attendees of the car cruise can use parking lots near Two Rivers City Hall, the J.E. Hamilton Community House, and Fox Communities Credit Union.
On a good night for the cruise, Ring says they can see up to 800 people participating.
“(It’s) about 45 minutes’ worth of classic cars cruising by,” he described. “(It’s) very popular to hang out on Memorial Drive and watch cars go by. If you want to get up a little closer and see going a little slower, the end of Washington Street, 15th Street, 16th Street, that area, great areas to set up your chairs and watch the cars come in to town.”
Parking for cruisers begins at 21st Street and will continue until it’s filled to 15th Street.
Ring says that really any unique car can be in the cruise, and it doesn’t technically have to be classic.
He exclaimed, “Even if you have a modern sports car, bring it out and show it off. Pickup trucks, Jeeps, customized things. Really, anybody, any car…can participate.”
If cruisers don’t want to go to a restaurant, there will be food trucks and a beer tent available.
For the Saturday classic car show, registration will open at 7:30 a.m.
Participants should bring their cars in from 18th Street by the United States Post Office.
The car show begins at 10:00 a.m., and a trophy will be handed out at 2:00 p.m. for different winners.
Judging is done by the participants.
“If you’re in Class K, you’ll judge Class M, and so on down the line,” he noted. “When you register, you’ll get a judging certificate, and you’ll go around and judge cars in that class. And then you can also vote for the best of show cars as well.”
