The Kiel Fire Department is offering advice after being called for two dishwasher fires.
Both fires occurred in the evening, with one incident starting when a piece of plastic fell into the dishwasher and came into contact with a heating element.
The second fire was put out by the homeowners before firefighters arrived, thanks to working smoke detectors.
The Kiel Fire Department says appliances like dishwashers, dryers, and other appliances are part of everyday life, but they should not be left running unattended or while you’re away from home.
They also recommend keeping smoke detectors working, staying home while major appliances are running, and calling 911 if you see smoke or fire.
