One of the leaders in the Manitowoc Police Department is getting a unique training opportunity.
Captain Cooper Schmidt has been working for Manitowoc for quite some time now, and he says that he chose this profession to make a difference in his community.
“I take a lot of pride in what I do,” he said this week on WOMT’s Be My Guest program. “I like to say I’ve learned from the best, and I try to do as much for my community both on duty and off as I can.”
This includes being an active part of the recovery community.
To help him achieve that goal, Captain Schmidt now has the opportunity to attend a training program with the FBI.
“It’s 10 weeks long, and it’s classwork every day,” he explained. “I’ll be working towards my master’s degree. The courses that I take are credited through the University of Virginia.”
The Manitowoc Police Department has waited a decade to get a spot in this program, and Captain Schmidt says that this is the best training an officer can get.
He is honored that he is able to represent his community at this training center.
“It’s very exciting to have this opportunity,” he admitted. “I hope for the next twenty years, I’ll be able to use the skills and things that I’ve learned at the FBI National Academy to better serve the people here.”
This experience will be great for Captain Schmidt and the entirety of the Manitowoc Police Department, which he says can learn from his experience in the program.
