New technology is on our Lakeshores to clean up the litter.
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is partnered with GLPC and Meijer to help clean up debris and litter in and around the Great Lakes.
With support from Meijer in past years, over 47 pounds of debris were removed from the coastlines of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan.
With this extra funding, GLPC was recently able to deploy its Bebot and Pixie Drones, which are robotic devices that will help clean up the Lakeshore at Point Beach, Red Arrow, Kohler Andrae, and Manitowoc Marina.
GLPC is the first of its kind to use this innovative technology to clean litter from the lakeshores.
What they collect will be analyzed to show litter sources and pathways.
UW-Oshkosh is dedicated to expanding its efforts to protect the Great Lakes.
The college looks forward to deploying more of these devices at different sites and engaging more communities.
They will ensure healthier Great Lakes for future generations.
