An Oshkosh man has been sentenced in an animal abuse case.
39-year-old Travis Gant was previously found guilty due to no contest pleas on charges of Intentionally Mistreating Animals and Felony Bail Jumping, while three other charges were dismissed but read into the record.
Judge Michael Rust ordered Gant to spend nine months in jail following an 18-month prison term.
FOX11 reports that the investigation into Gant began when a 13-year-old girl received a video of him beating and kicking the family’s dog.
Three adult canines and four puppies were removed from the home by the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, with one of the dogs showing signs of an injury to its head.
Gant claimed the dogs had gotten into a fight, exacerbating previous health concerns for one of them.
Witnesses also claimed Gant threatened others in the home, including an adult woman and the previously mentioned 13-year-old girl, for sharing the video, but Intimidating a Victim charges were dismissed.
