The new fire station in Newton is taking shape.
The exterior of the station, including roofs and some walls, has been constructed. while the garage area has also taken shape.
The current Town of Newton fire station is too small to store all the equipment and fire trucks the department needs.
Some equipment is stored off-site at the town’s public works building.
The town board got the money for the new station through a $7 million referendum and a fundraising effort.
The new Newton fire station could be completed by the end of this year.
The old fire station will become the town’s new Public Works Building.
