Work is still being done to try to bring a passenger rail service to Sheboygan.
This past weekend, Mayor Ryan Sorenson met with a representative from Amtrak to discuss the possibility of continuing on previous discussions held on the matter between the City and the train company.
This comes as many other municipalities across the state have had similar advanced discussions on expanding rail initiatives in Wisconsin.
On the desire to get Amtrak rail service in Sheboygan, Mayor Sorenson stated, “Sheboygan is ideally positioned for passenger rail connectivity. Expanding rail service would provide significant benefits for residents, businesses, and tourism while strengthening regional mobility.”
These conversations also fall in line with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Rail Plan 2050, a long-range strategy to strengthen rail infrastructure across the state.
Despite these positive efforts, Mayor Sorenson closed by explaining, “This project is going to be a long-term initiative that is going to require a lot of advocacy from businesses, community leaders, and residents if we are able to get this to the finish line.”
