It’s time once again for a June Dairy Month tradition.
Manitowoc County’s Breakfast on the Farm gets underway on Sunday (June 14th) from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hochkammer Dairy Farm on Center Road in Manitowoc.
Kelly Wilfert with the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau tells Seehafernews.com that they hope to break an attendance record set at Hochkammer Dairy the last time they hosted.
“With the weather looking as great as it is, we do anticipate good-sized numbers,” she explained. “But it’s a farm that has plenty of area to spread out. So, don’t let that deter you from coming. Come on out and help us break a record.”
As in years past, attendees park in a hay field away from the farm and will be brought in by tractor and wagon.
“We do ask that folks approach the farm from the south,” she detailed. “So the address is 5908 Center Road. But Center Road and Carstens Lake Road will be shut down from the north.”
The best way for drivers using Interstate 43 is to get off at Newton on County Road C, take Center Road north, and follow the directions to where you need to park in the field.
One thing Wilfert highlighted about Hochkammer Dairy Farm is their commitment to conservation and water quality.
“Manitowoc County Land and Conservation Department will be on site at one of the tour stops to help in order to help showcase some of those extra conservation efforts,” she stated. “They do a great job of it, as do many of our local farms but this is really the first time we’ve had a great opportunity to showcase it.”
There will also be a change to the food this year.
Like in years past, breakfast includes ham and cheese omelets, cheese curds, cinnamon bread, and, of course, milk.
But this year, the grilled cheeses will be replaced with cheese quesadillas on flour and corn tortillas.
“Flour are going to be in the regular line,” she noted. “If you need a corn tortilla, if you’re gluten-free, go ahead and ask for that. They’ll have them ready prepared on a separate griddle.”
