A bill from Manitowoc County’s congressman in Washington was included in a bill passed through the U.S. House of Representatives.
Congressman Glenn Grothman says the Stop Child Care Scams Act is a “package of reforms that strengthens oversight of federal childcare assistance programs and protects taxpayer dollars.”
Rep. Grothman’s CRACKDOWN Act was included in the reform package in response to claims of childcare fraud in Minnesota.
Specifically, it amends the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 1990.
The Glenbeulah Republican’s legislation, “establishes a clear 5% improper payment threshold and requires states to take corrective action when payment errors become excessive.”
He says states have been allowed to accumulate high levels of improper payments with little accountability.
By adding the CRACKDOWN Act, Congress. Grothman says the federal government has taken another step toward “restoring accountability and making sure government programs serve the people they are meant to help.”
The Stop Child Care Scams Act has had two hearings in the U.S Senate’s Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, but has not been brought to the floor for a full vote.
