Healthiest Manitowoc County is helping kids get out and play a sport.
The group’s SOAR Coalition is hosting a free sport and play equipment giveaway this morning (June 6th) at the Manitowoc Farmers Market until 1:00 p.m.
Members of the community can grab new or gently used gear at no cost while supplies last.
Healthiest Manitowoc County Coordinator Lexi Otis explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that the equipment was given as part of an initiative called Ready, Set, Play, and was collected in May.
“Our partners were the Y, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and then the Chamber’s Safety and Wellness Committee,” she explained. “So they had boxes that community members could drop off stuff off too. And Froedtert Holy Family Memorial, they helped purchase some of the stuff.”
The drive brought in a lot of equipment for kids to get, including frisbees and more.
“All sorts of baseball bats, softball bats, a variety of gloves for youth and adults,” she described. “We have tons of rackets for a variety of different sports. There’s golf clubs, there’s swim goggles, there’s yard games.”
There might also be some cleats to try on.
Otis says Healthiest Manitowoc County hosting the free giveaway will help families, as sports equipment can be expensive.
The Manitowoc Farmers Market runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
