After falling just one place short of qualifying for state last season, Two Rivers High School junior Malasia Lee made it her mission to make the trip down to La Crosse for the State Meet this year.
That determination paid off this spring as Lee secured her spot at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
The 11th-grade athlete admitted that the accomplishment took some time to process fully
“I feel like determination and training, trusting your training, and trusting in God and putting Him first in everything I do,” she told SeehaferNews.com.
Lee credited her success to consistent training, trust in her preparation, and her faith.
“I feel like determination and training, trusting your training, and trusting in God and putting Him first in everything I do,” she revealed.
Throughout the season, Lee followed a demanding weekly routine that balanced recovery, endurance work, speed training, and strength development.
She said Tuesdays were often dedicated to challenging endurance workouts, while Thursdays were focused on speed drills, such as sprint work, while also training with Coach Chris Kozlowski at Darkside Strength on Fridays.
Lee also broke the Two Rivers High School records in the 100 and 200 meter dash in the same night.
As she prepares to compete on the state’s biggest stage, Malasia is keeping her approach simple.
“My goal going into state is to stay calm,” she said. “It’s just another meet at the end of the day. It’s a bigger meet, but it’s nothing I haven’t experienced before.”
After years of hard work and a season filled with record-breaking performances, Lee will now represent Two Rivers High School at the state meet, carrying with her the determination that helped turn last year’s disappointment into this year’s achievement.
Malasia and the rest of the state qualifiers will be at Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse this Friday and Saturday.
