The City of Two Rivers could hold a special meeting for a much-talked-about project.
There is an opportunity for the city to get a federal grant to fund renovations on the Neshotah Beach Concessions Stand.
Two Rivers City Manager Kyle Kordell says the Wisconsin Department of Administration denied a previous grant application, which caused the city to pause the project.
They would only move forward if outside funding covered half of the cost of the concessions stand.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mathis says they want to apply for $400,000 through the USDA Rural Development Grant, but he wants to make sure Two Rivers can get enough points to get the grant.
“My understanding is that a portion of this grant this is very rigorously scored, very clearly scored, and then there are portions of this grant that are not super clearly scored,” he explained. “And how the level of match contributes to that scoring is not clear, so I’m meeting with staff.”
The city could match around $150,000 to help get the grant. Councilmember Katherine Dahlke asked some questions about what the USDA might consider essential and if the concessions stand would count.
The grant application must be submitted by June 14, which is why a special meeting is required.
The Neshotah Beach Concessions Stand needs improvements because it is almost out of compliance with the county health code.
The city previously brought forward proposals to fully redo the stand, upgrade it to code, or take additional steps without a complete remodel.
