The City of Two Rivers has approved the installation of new signs at Neshotah Park.
The city council voted 7-1 to approve a $56,000 contract with Signs Plus of Manitowoc to build and install signs along Zlatnik Drive and other areas of the park.
Signs include two gateway signs, seven directional and parking signs, ten pedestrian direction signs, six trail information signs, and others.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mathis says a lot’s been done at Neshotah Park through the master plan with help from a 2025 Wisconsin DNR Stewardship grant.
He added, “We’ll be finishing up additional picnic tables, recycling bins, trash cans, and possibly a new shower tower, depending on how I come out on all that.”
Mathis says 57 signs were removed from Zlatnik Drive and around the park because there were too many of the same signs.
“We’ve removed a lot of signs already and then just swapped out old signs for new signs,” he noted. “The next gain in signs is going to be a net reduction in signs.”
Directional and parking signs will be installed in each parking lot at the park, while the Gateway signs will welcome people to the Neshotah Park area.
Councilmember Katherine Dahlke says she appreciates the signs’ aesthetic and that the project is sustainable.
“I know that was a big part of the conversation,” she explained. “This isn’t something that’s going to be a long-term cost. We’ve talked about cost-effectiveness. I think a lot of thought went into this.”
Mathis did not say when the new signs would be installed around Neshotah Park.
The city has made other major improvements, including new pathways, the construction of two new picnic shelters, tree planting, and the removal of old tennis courts.
