A Fond du Lac County family is mourning the loss of a family pet and their home.
The St. Cloud Fire Department and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported house fire in the 800 block of Main Street in St. Cloud at around 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
When they arrived, firefighters learned that two dogs were trapped inside.
Crews entered the home, where they found an active fire in the kitchen.
They began attacking the blaze and were able to rescue one of the dogs, but the other canine died.
The fire and additional hot spots were extinguished, but not before the home suffered significant smoke and water damage.
While the fire was said to have originated in the kitchen, the exact cause is not known at this time.
