Living in Wisconsin, we’ve all come to expect that spring will take a while to arrive, but once it does, it comes on like gangbusters, and before you know it, summer is upon us, much like the WIAA Spring postseason.
Girls Softball has reached the sectional semifinals; baseball is in the regional semifinals; the girls’ soccer tournament begins Tuesday; boys’ golf will determine team and individual state qualifiers also on Tuesday (June 2nd); and state competition begins later this week in Track and Field and boys’ tennis.
There are tremendous storylines involving local and area athletes that we at seehafernews.com will be following, including the city of Kiel possibly enjoying two deep tournament runs in baseball and girls’ soccer.
Both teams are ranked first in their respective Division Three polls as they begin their push towards their ultimate goal (no pun intended) of playing at their respective state tournaments.
Can Mishicot continue a run that saw them win their first boys golf regional title in 46 years last week? Can Denmark repeat as Division Two state softball champions?
The Kewaunee Storm baseball team finished the regular season undefeated (25-0), and there are many talented track and field athletes from Manitowoc County and the lakeshore who have a great chance to step on the podium at this week’s state meet in La Crosse.
We state the obvious based on results from the season to date, but what’s great about high school sports is we’ve been trained to always expect the unexpected, as there are those pleasant surprise performances that come out of nowhere that captivate all fans, and even you find yourself hopping on the bandwagon, pulling for their Cinderella runs to continue.
What team(s) or individuals will prove the pundits wrong and persevere to cap off a lifetime of preparation and sacrifice?
Well, get ready to hop aboard the WIAA Spring tournament train for a long but beautiful three-week ride that will end with the crowning of four girls’ state soccer champions on June 20th in Milwaukee.
