A man previously convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child in Manitowoc County has been arrested again.
19-year-old Jovanni R. Ortiz was present for a bail hearing yesterday (May 26th), where Court Commissioner Jewel Scharenbroch gave him a $500 cash bail for violating a child abuse injunction.
This charge stems from Ortiz continuing to have contact with the same child he was convicted of sexually assaulting less than a year ago.
In a letter written to the court, the victim’s mother revealed that the 19-year-old was calling the victim from jail while awaiting trial for sexually assaulting the 15-year-old girl.
The letter also showed that he reinitiated contact with her daughter almost immediately after being released from jail, despite being on probation, specifically preventing him from having contact of any kind with the victim, her mother, or anyone under the age of 18.
This is also on top of a child abuse restraining order filed against Ortiz, which he was also in violation of by contacting the victim.
He was again ordered to have no contact with the victim or their residence as part of his bail as well.
Ortiz will return to court to make his initial appearance tomorrow (May 28th) at 10:30 a.m. in courtroom B-15.
