Local communities are prepared to honor the fallen this holiday weekend.
The City of Manitowoc’s Memorial Day (May 25th) celebration will kick off with a parade at 9:00 a.m., beginning at South 8th Street and Washington Street in the downtown area.
It will then travel north on South 8th before turning left on Huron Street and coming to an end at the Veterans Memorial on North 18th Street.
Immediately following the parade will be the Memorial Day ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial across the street from Evergreen Cemetery.
In Sheboygan, the festivities will also begin with a parade at 9:00 a.m., starting at the intersection of North 7th Street and Center Avenue, traveling north to Michigan Avenue, south to North 9th Street, and ending at Fountain Park.
A ceremony will follow at Fountain Park, and United States Coast Guard veteran and the veterans service officer for Sheboygan County, Craig Stewart, will serve as the featured speaker.
During the entire duration of the ceremony, a brat fry will also be held, with all proceeds benefiting the Military and Youth Foundation, a group chaired by Stewart, and the Marine Corps League.
