While the Kiel girls’ soccer team continues to dominate, the baseball team has also been taking care of business.
The Raiders hosted Brillion last night in a battle that would determine the EWC champions.
Kiel was able to hold off a late Lions surge and earn an 8-6 win while also securing the EWC title.
The Lions got the scoring started early, plating a run in the top half of the first inning, but the Raiders would retaliate with four runs of their own.
Brillion’s offense stumbled after plating one more run in the 3rd, and they entered the 7th down 8-2.
The bats came back alive, as the Lions were able to score 4 runs to make it close, but in the end, they fell just short.
Kiel sported a balanced attack, with nearly every batter contributing with a hit, but Logan Guzman had the highlight of the night for the Raiders, a 3-run home run in the opening frame.
It was a similar story for Brillion, who had all but two batters tag at least one hit, including Kelvin Gilbertson, whose 2 run double helped spark the comeback attempt in the 7th.
With the win, the Raiders remain perfect at 17-0 on the season, 14-0 in the EWC with two games left in the regular season.
They will next host Oconto on Monday, while the Lions, now 20-4 overall and 12-2 in the EWC, prepare to travel to Marinette for their final regular-season game on Tuesday.
