The New Holstein boys golf team made history at Quit-Qui-Oc Golf Club in Elkhart Lake yesterday.
The Huskies may have come in second at the 18-Hole EWC Championships behind Brillion, but they were crowned the overall EWC champions for the first time in school history.
The Lions’ team score of 348 was two strokes better than the Huskies and 11 strokes lower than the third-place Kiel Raiders. Valders was 4th, followed by Chilton/Hilbert, Two Rivers, Sheboygan Falls, and Roncalli.
The Huskies placement allowed them to secure enough points throughout the season to take home the EWC crown.
Sheboygan Falls, which was leading the conference entering the day, fell to second and snapped their string of four straight conference titles.
Adding to the excitement for New Holstein was Parker Kuba carding the best score of the day, an 8 over par 79.
This was three strokes better than Evan Grasse of Chilton/Hilbert, and four strokes lower than the third-place finisher, Dominic Paulow of Brillion.
There awas three way tie for 4th place, with Ben Gates of Two Rivers, New Holstein’s Ethan Hanke, and Gunner Wiginton of Valders all carding an 85.
Sheboygan Falls’ top golfer was Sam Bast, the EWC Golfer of the Year, who tied for 8th place with Quaid Hale of Brillion and Cameron Jaschob of Kiel as they all shot an 87.
Roncalli was led by Carter Kilbride, whose 90 was good for a five way tie for 15th place in a field of 40 golfers.
