For the first time in school history, the Manitowoc Lutheran boys track and field team has captured the Big East Conference championship, which was held Monday at St. Mary Catholic High School in Fox Crossing.
The Lancers scored 156 points, 45 better than runners-up Oostburg. Senior Trenton Schuettpelz was named the” overall athlete of the meet.”
He won three conference titles, finishing first in the triple jump, long jump, and 300-meter hurdles, and placed second in the 110-meter-high hurdles.
The 4×100-meter relay team of seniors Ben Harrison, Issac Wagner, Noah Dillion, and junior Brody Wieting is the conference champion, setting a school record with a winning time of 44.43 seconds.
Other athletes awarded All-Conference Athlete recognition for finishing in the top three of their respective events were senior Ben Harrison in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, senior Tristan Hulse in the shot put, freshman Julian Steubs in the 400 meter run, the 4×200 meter relay team of seniors Isiah Muchka and Issac Wagner, junior Matthias Buege, and sophomore Roman DiMarco.
Also, the 4X400 meter relay team of Muchka, Steubs, Di Marco, and freshman Luke Melhorn, Issac Muchka in the triple jump, and sophomore Trevor Schuettpelz in the 300 meter hurdles.
The Lancer girls placed fifth with a total of 72 points. Mishicot captured the team title with 140 points.
Lancer Junior Eva Manzano won the conference title in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet-11-and-a-half inches.
Receiving All-Conference Athlete recognition for finishing in the top three were the 4×400 relay team of Manzano, junior Ava Schultz, and sophomores Isabella Eick and Hope Muchka.
Manzano, Schultz, along with juniors Abby Huehn and Brooke Duveneck, received honors in both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays, while Eick, Muchka, along with sophomores Adriel Barthel and Maddie Wusterbarth, also received all-conference recognition in the 4×100 meter relay event.
The Lancers are off until next Tuesday when they head to Hilbert for Division Three regional competition.
