Madison Elementary School in Manitowoc is one step closer to being owned by the city.
The Common Council unanimously approved a resolution to acquire the school property for only $1.00.
However, Mayor Justin Nickels tells SeehaferNews.com that the city doesn’t yet own the property.
The city could close on the property sometime this summer.
The resolution the city approved states that it already owns two parcels of land next to the school and would market the property to all interested parties for redevelopment.
However, it’s not known if any groups have reached out to the city about the property.
The Manitowoc Public School Board voted last week to approve the city’s purchase of the school.
Board members believed that the city would do a better job selling and marketing the property, and they wouldn’t have to pay for deconstruction.
