Manitowoc County could approve a sublease at the UW-Green Bay Manitowoc campus.
This is part of the Manitowoc Public School District’s consolidation plan, where alternative learning students who went to Stangel Learning Academy would be at the UWGB campus, Hillside Hall, to learn instead.
County Executive Tyler Martell explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the county owns the land and building, and the space is rented to the college at no cost.
The $100,000 agreement provides for an annual fee between the county and campus.
“It’s a fair market for the amount of space that they are going to have,” he explained. “But it’s much cheaper for the school district than if they had to continue using one of their buildings and maintain that. So, it’s a win for them.”
But the county also gets $50,000 in return, which Martell wants to go toward future capital projects at the campus.
Stangel Learning Academy is being repurposed as a full elementary school after Madison and Jackson Elementary Schools close at the end of the school year.
