A blown stop sign and a high-speed chase led to an OWI arrest in Manitowoc.
An officer with the Manitowoc Police Department was on patrol near downtown at 2:30 Saturday morning (May 16th) when they saw a vehicle driving at speeds around 40 MPH blow through a stop sign at North 11th Street and Riverpoint Drive before driving down the wrong side of the road.
The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver continued to drive even after initially stopping and crashing into a gate on North 9th Street.
The driver was able to elude police while driving at speeds over 60 MPH and abandoned his vehicle on the railroad tracks at the corner of Madison Street and Lakeview Drive, and the driver was later seen staggering on South Lake Street.
The 32-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he admitted, “You guys got me for alcohol.”
A warrant was obtained for an evidentiary blood draw, and the man was arrested on his 5th OWI, Fleeing or Eluding Causing Property Damage, 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
