A local member of the State Assembly has commented on a recently voted on piece of legislation.
Earlier this week, the Wisconsin State Legislature voted on the $1.8 billion deal to fund public education, decrease property taxes, and eliminate taxes on overtime and tips.
One of those in the Assembly to vote yes on the package was 26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan, who represents Sheboygan.
Rep. Sheehan noted that this package was a bipartisan compromise spearheaded by Governor Tony Evers, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.
The package allocates $600 million to be invested into special and general education funding for k-12 students across the state, while $50 million will be invested into the Wisconsin Technical College System.
Regarding the bipartisan surplus compromise, Rep. Sheehan stated, “As you know, I will always fight for education funding and special education funding, which is why I voted yes for this bill.”
The bill passed the Wisconsin Assembly by a 61-32 vote, however failed in the Senate on a 15-18 vote.
