A former Mishicot gym teacher charged with sexually assaulting a student multiple times has been convicted.
38-year-old Ryan Scott Schroeder pleaded guilty to one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child in his Manitowoc County circuit court case.
Charges, including 2nd-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement, 10 counts of possession of child pornography, sexual assault of a student by school staff, and others, were dismissed but read into the record.
The plea hearing happened after Manitowoc County Judge Mark Rohrer denied a motion to suppress statements from an interview at Mishicot High School and an interview at the sheriff’s office.
The 38-year-old will appear in a federal prison for sentencing while his federal case is worked through.
He faces two federal counts of production of child pornography in that case.
Schroeder was arrested after the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into numerous reports of inappropriate behavior involving a student.
A criminal complaint says the former teacher and student had sexual contact with two victims, including a juvenile girl when she was 14 and 16 years old.
Prosecutors say the sexual assault happened over 50 times, with 10 instances happening at Mishicot High School.
Attorneys are recommending a fifteen-year prison sentence for Schroeder.
He will be sentenced on July 22nd.
