The Mishicot Indians’ girls’ softball team has captured its eighth consecutive outright Big East North Division championship (excluding the 2020 season, which was canceled due to COVID-19).
They did their part by defeating Manitowoc Lutheran 8-0 at Lancer Circle Tuesday night, and, coupled with St. Mary Catholic losing to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 6-5, the Indians grabbed a three-game lead with two games remaining in the regular season.
The game was scoreless for three innings before Mishicot scored four runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth, and tacked on another in the sixth to secure the victory.
Neveah Malchek had three of the Indians’ 12 hits and knocked in a run, Anna Cisler added two hits and knocked in a game-high three runs, Eva Boness and Sierra Skarda each had two hits and a RBI and scored two runs, Lexie Thor had a base hit and an RBI, Casey Brouchoud added a hit and scored two runs and Marissa Rezba also had a base hit for the Indians.
Bella Noskowiak had three of the Lancers’ six hits against Mishicot starting pitcher Neveah Malchek, who went the distance in the circle.
In seven innings of work, she scattered six hits while walking two and striking out three. Hayden Swatek took the loss for the Lancers, allowing eight runs, all earned. She gave up 12 hits while walking two and striking out three.
Mishicot improves to 8 and 1 in The Big East North and 9 and 12 overall, while the Lancers fall to 3 and 6 in the Big East North and 6 and 7 overall.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon in Mishicot, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
