A lawsuit filed by the City of Manitowoc over the Mirro site is going to federal court.
WBAY reports that the lawsuit was first filed in the Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Newell brand filed a notice to have the case argued in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Green Bay.
The change was approved by Manitowoc County Judge Anthony Lambrecht.
Manitowoc is seeking $6 million in reimbursement for the cleanup process that led to contaminants such as PCBs, petroleum compounds, and PFAS ending up in the soil.
Mayor Justin Nickels said the city’s goal was simple: “to ensure accountability for environmental impacts while continuing to move forward with a project that will benefit city residents for generations.”
A 59-unit apartment complex is in the works, with construction starting later this year.
It would also include a community, a room, a fitness center, and an on-site leasing office.
