With just seven regular-season games left, it appears as though Manitowoc Lincoln’s chance at an FRCC baseball title is now out of reach.
The Ships hosted Bay Port for a double header at Bruce Steinbecker Field on Saturday, four games behind the Pirates in the conference standings.
However, Bay Port would claim game one 3-1 in extra innings and game two 11-8.
Bennett Johnson suffered the loss in the opener despite 7 and two-thirds innings of impeccable pitching.
He allowed just one run through regulation, but also allowed the eventual game-winning runs in the 8th.
The Ships’ offense did not give him any help, as they only tallied a single hit off the bat of Gabe Eichmann, but game two was an entirely different story.
The Ships’ 8 runs came on just as many hits, with Eichmann knocking home two runs with a pair of doubles.
Bentley Hendrickson also went yard for the Ships, but it wasn’t enough as four Lincoln pitchers couldn’t slow down the Pirates’ offense.
With the losses, the Ships fall to 6th place in the FRCC at 7-6 and sit at 10-8 overall.
They don’t have time to sulk, however, as Lincoln is back in action tonight as they host Sheboygan South.
