A Mishicot father accused of raping his daughter has appeared in court.
38-year-old Travis L. Besaw was present for his bail hearing this afternoon (May 8th), where Court Commissioner Jewel Scharenbroch set his bail at $500,000 cash.
This comes as Besaw faces charges of Sexual Assault of a Child, Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child, Incest, and Strangulation and Suffocation.
During today’s hearing, it was revealed that Besaw is accused of continually raping his daughter over the past two years, beginning when she was just 14 years old.
It was further alleged that he offered his daughter drugs and alcohol in order to continue raping her and even threatened to turn her in to the police for her drug use if she didn’t allow him to sexually assault her.
During one such instance, the 38-year-old is accused of choking the victim during a sexual assault, and when interviewed by police, she noted, “I was gasping for air.”
These allegations come as Besaw has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for child neglect, drug possession, and a sex offender registry violation, amongst others.
Additional terms of his bail include a strict no contact order with the victim, the victim’s mother, and anyone under the age of 18.
Besaw will be back in court on Monday (May 11th) to make his initial appearance at 1:30 p.m. in Branch 4.
