The American Legion of Manitowoc County is celebrating a vital program held last month.
April 21st was Youth Government Day at the Manitowoc County Courthouse.
The legion explained that it was a full-day experience that provided high school students with firsthand knowledge of how county government affects their daily lives.
93 students, as well as 14 American Legion members, participated in Youth Government Day, which included the chance to observe a live court hearing and meet new Manitowoc County Executive Tyler Martell.
Participants also got to tour some facilities, including the County Clerk’s Office, the County Jail, and the Coroner’s Office.
The program ended with a lunch provided by the American Legion and students listening to an address from retired U.S. Air Force Major General Tim Zadalis.
The American Legion of Manitowoc County explains that Youth Government Day continues to serve as a vital program in developing informed, engaged citizens by connecting students with the people and processes that shape their county government.
