An amendment from Wisconsin’s Sixth District Congressman made it into an annual agricultural bill.
Congressman Glenn Grothman tells constituents that the U.S. House has passed the Farm Bill, which provides updates to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs to better reflect today’s challenges.
Rep. Grothman’s amendment in the bill requires the USDA to report back to Congress after SNAP restriction pilots are completed.
The Glenbeulah Republican explains that, “states explore limiting certain items that can be bought with SNAP benefits, like soda, this ensures Congress gets a full review of how those pilots actually worked in practice.”
The U.S. House Committee on Agriculture says the bill builds on the historic ag investments made last summer with the passing of the Working Families Tax Cuts, or the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
The Committee also explains that Wisconsin would receive approximately $624 million in risk protections, $1.25 billion in agricultural research investments, and $2.4 billion in trade promotion investments.
Grothman also noted that the latest farm bill is about backing the people who keep the country running and making sure policies match the moment.
