An Oshkosh man is heading to federal prison for robbing a gas station last year.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin has announced that 59-year-old Lorenzo Wood Jr.
has been sentenced after being found guilty of Hobbs Act robbery and possession of a firearm as a felon by an armed career criminal.
On Wednesday (April 29th), Hobbs Jr. was ordered to spend 180 months or 15 years in a federal prison, followed by five years on extended supervision.
Court documents show that in October 2025, the 59-year-old walked into the Kwik Trip located on Jackson Street in Oshkosh armed with a revolver.
He proceeded to point the gun at the clerk while demanding money from the cash register.
Wood Jr. only made off with $170 before fleeing the scene.
Eventually, he was tracked down by deputies with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and arrested after a search of his home uncovered the revolver used in the armed robbery.
During his sentencing, U.S. District Judge Byron B. Conway noted that these actions, which were carried out by a person with previous time in prison for similar offenses, were quite serious in nature and left a profound impact on the victim.
On the investigation that led to this sentencing, Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz said, “I want to express my appreciation to the deputies that solved this case. It was not only Kwik Trip video but also the use of Flock that brought this incident to a close. As always, we appreciate collaborating with our federal partners.”
